Tips For Increasing Sales For Your E-Commerce Store

The #1 SEO Plugin

You’ve been in business for some time now and your e-commerce store is up and running. You’re selling products, but the numbers show that those sales have fallen a bit flat. If these statements apply to you, then there are certain elements of your marketing and store design that you should check out. In this article, you’ll learn what some of those elements are and how to improve them.

Using Video
Video is a great way to showcase your products and sell your customers on the benefits. You could also gain an advantage over your competition, because chances are that they don’t currently use video. Many business owners think that it it’s too difficult to implement, but it’s just not the case. You could film a video with nothing more than a smartphone, and host and embed the video on your site using YouTube. Another option is to record a PowerPoint presentation on your computer demonstrating products.

Google Analytics
Any business owner who doesn’t have Google Analytics installed on their website is doing themselves a disservice. It’s a free web analytics tool that can measure traffic to each page of your e-commerce store, showing where that traffic came from, what pages are viewed the most, and the bounce rate – the number of people who get to your site and leave immediately or within a few seconds of landing there.

If you have a high bounce rate, there may be an issue with your design that you need to address. Too many photos that slow the download, or flash entry pages you need to click on to enter the site, can irritate browsers and lose customers.

Testing Your Price
Testing the prices of your products can have a dramatic impact on the level of sales in your business. Take a look at your competition to get an idea of how your prices compare to theirs. This doesn’t mean that you should become the cheapest option in your market. Set your prices at a competitive rate and test to see which rate is the most profitable for your business.

Testing a Special Offer
The offer that you present can either seal the deal or kill the sale. People love a great deal, and it’s up to you to create one that gets your customers to buy. A common offer seen with online retailing is the “free shipping” deal. This deal is usually applied to customers who purchase a certain dollar amount worth of products. You could also have a “buy one, get one free” deal or offer a free item when a customer buys a certain product. Whatever you do, make sure that you know your numbers so that you don’t end up losing money.

Cross-Sell Relevant Products
If you’ve ever bought anything from Amazon, then you’ve seen this process in action. Let’s say that you added a science fiction novel to your shopping cart and are ready to checkout. Amazon then displays complementary products, like a list of science fiction magazines, and asks whether you’d like to purchase these additional items.

You can implement this process into the shopping cart on your e-commerce store. If you were selling tennis rackets, then it would probably be a good idea to sell something like a set of tennis balls. Always cross-sell products which relate to the customer’s purchase.

Split Test Your Design
The design of your e-commerce store is much more important than you may think. Thankfully, there’s software that is available that allows you to test different designs to find which one converts better. You can test the color of your “add to cart” buttons (yes, this makes a difference), the position of your shopping cart, or your checkout process. The software will show which design elements are converting more, and you can make any necessary changes.

If you want to increase the amount of sales you make with your e-commerce store, make sure to consider these marketing and design elements. Continuous testing is needed to find what’s already working, and which areas can use innovation or improvement.
