Getting Stuck On A Keyword For A Domain Name

Finding a great domain name for your website is important but being stuck on one URL is probably a bad idea.

There are two main reasons why you should be open to other domain names for your new website:

- Sometimes, no matter what, the owner of the domain you want will not sell it

- The domain owner may be willing to sell it but it’s going to cost you a lot of money

If you seem really eager and contact them in a way that makes them think you need the domain, they make ask an obscene amount of money for it. You still may be able to get the domain at a decent price but chances are they will try to take you for as much money as they can, knowing how desperate you are. Being open to other options can save you a lot of money and stress.

Sometimes paying extra for the right name is worth your time, especially if you’re planning to spend a lot of time, money, and energy developing a web property. If your domain name will help you make more money then you should think about pursuing that name.

Exact Match Domains

A great example of domains that can help you make more money is exact match domains. Exact match domains have a ranking bonus in many search engines such as Google and Yahoo. They also allow you to influence anchor text when you are marketing your website to bloggers and web directories.

Exact match domains are also quite good because they get a lot of click throughs from visitors in the search results. A person searches for “hotels” will see Hotels.com high up on the list so they’re going to be pretty certain that the website they’re visiting is relevant to their query.

Domain Names for Branding

When we were deciding on a domain name we went with LifeCover because we thought it sounded great from a branding perspective. The main thing that our website offers is life insurance so we thought the name played into that and it also means that we can grow the site out into other topics. If we’d chosen something like Lifeinsurancequotes.com we would be stuck with only being able to offer life insurance quotes. With LifeCover.ca we can offer all kinds of products and services related to almost anything we want. “Life” is after all, a rather broad topic.

With a little creativity you can likely come up with something you’re very happy with for a $12 registration price. If you want a strong website and you need it to happen right away then you should think about an exact match domain but it could cost you a pretty penny – depending on what you’re hoping to rank for. If you’re planning on building a web empire then you might have to look at something that will help you from a branding perspective.

Either way, you should be open to a number of options as that is one of the only ways you can find a great domain name for a reasonable price.
